South Australia is known as the driest state in the driest continent on earth, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have some of the most beautiful coastline and lakes in the world! The  capital city of Adelaide is a laid back and amazing cultural and arts experience and a foodies delight.

It’s nearby wine regions also make it the wine capital of Australia: (Barossa Valley (whites), Coonawarra (reds) Clare Valley (Rieslings) the Adelaide Hills, (whites), and McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek on the Fleurieu Peninsula.

Kangaroo Island is the city’s jewel in its crown with stunning beaches and unique wildlife and only two hours’ drive and a short ferry ride south of Adelaide.

If you fancy a paddlewheel cruise of hiring a houseboat, the mighty Murray River wends its serene way for 300 miles right through its southern portions. In contrast, the giant salt lakes of Lake Eyre (the mecca for world land speed record.attempts) and Gairdner are huge dry salt lakes surrounded by spectacular wildflowers, birds and wildlife in all seasons and conditions.

Across the Nullarbor Plain to the west, the stark treeless landscape contrasts with the spectacular coastline only a few kilometres to the south side of the road/train line where the wild southern ocean crashes onto the coast, creating diverse patterns in the rock face and sheltering the whales which come each season to breed in the protected waters.

In the mid-north the Flinders Ranges are a spectacular range of red cliffs with numerous walking tracks, gorges and chasms to explore.
